This is a collaborative project, envisioned by Vanessa Vargas, with the participation of Nela Cote, Mariana Alviárez, and Manuel Fajardo, Venezuelan artists and friends who have worked together for over 10 years. After emigrating, we decided to continue working remotely as a political and geopolitical response to distance, developing collaborative projects across the Atlantic. We connect with dancers, visual artists, musicians, and writers throughout the process, with the goal of challenging the limits of imagination and creation in dance practice, specifically in relation to the idea of the Nation-State. We aim to generate new distributions and sensitivities around themes such as state borders, the liminality of time and space, bodily encounters, and the use of media in dance practices, among others. Since 2013, we have collaborated on various dance projects, including Exoesqueleto (2013), Becoming (In) visible (2015), and Smoke (2017), which we have presented in Venezuela, Argentina, Spain, Peru, and New York.
